SUNTRUST BANK
About SUNTRUST BANK
Based on our experience with complex high-rise scopes of work, Best Roofing was awarded the contract to replace the metal roof on the SunTrust Bank located in Downtown Fort Lauderdale on the ever popular Las Olas Boulevard. Not only one of Fort Lauderdale's busiest streets, but one of its narrowest as well.
The extraordinary amount of daily foot traffic on the Boulevard created additional danger of injury by falling debris, which meant we had to be exceedingly vigilant to ensure a safe environment for the pedestrians. A ground protection safety monitor and overhead protection were in place as well as tying off all tools and equipment to the rooftop above.
Best Roofing and the City of Fort Lauderdale needed to work hand-in-hand on this project due to the engineering and scheduling components of this project, including Ground Penetrating Radar (used to ensure that the ground could support the weight of the crane); the closing of streets, including busy Las Olas Boulevard; swing staging; scaffolding; and scheduled loading of the project based on approval by the city, which ultimately took place on a Saturday.
The original scope called for replacement of the roof, however, due to the intense wind velocity at 240+ feet in the air, the extra measures required to remove the panels would involve significant additional cost. Instead, Best Roofing saved the client $100,000 by proposing retrofitting a new metal roof over the existing roof, making the removal of the panels unnecessary.
In addition to the everyday wind/weather conditions, the project endured 65 rain days AND a tropical storm! In spite of all of the obstacles, it was critical that Best Roofing complete the project in a given time period or be responsible for liquidated damages. The project was delivered on budget and on time.
