THE MILAN RESIDENCE
About THE MILAN RESIDENCE
A private home located in Coconut Groove, the Milan residence was originally built with a wood shake roof. Wood shake and wood shingle roofs (although not common in Florida) are a special hazard. These roofs will quickly ignite when exposed to flames or fire brands. A wood shake or wood shingle roof also increases the chance that the fire will spread to other structures by producing airborne flaming shingles that can travel with the wind and land on other flammable surfaces.
Additionally the roof was starting to leak and needed to be replaced. Best Roofing was called in and consulted with the owner who favored the look of wood shakes and wanted to keep the natural, rustic appearance in order to maintain the aesthetics of the original home. Best Roofing suggested a DaVinci Roofscape product, a polymer-composite synthetic shake tile that offers all of the natural, rustic beauty of real cedar shingles- but without any of the natural drawbacks of real wood.
The appearance of these shingles is that of a sophisticated, natural cedar product in both hand-split and machine-sewn varieties. The product is offered in a full-spectrum of authentic cedar colors to choose from, as well as a number of pre-designed roofscape blends - each virtually maintenance free and backed by a 50-year limited warranty.
Each DaVinci composite roof shingle is
- lightweight,
- impervious to freeze/thaw cycles,
- impact resistant,
- maintenance free,
- color fade resistant,
- Class A fire rated (with specified underlayments),
- UL 2218 Class 4 impact rated, and
- wind resistant to 110 mph.
